Pamela Snow is the Professor of Cognitive Psychology and Co-Director of the Science of Language and Reading (SOLAR) Lab in the School of Education at La Trobe University (based at the Bendigo campus).
Pamela qualified originally as a speech-language pathologist and completed a PhD on acquired brain injury, before going on to qualify as a psychologist. She has taught a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate health and education professionals across three Australian universities.
Pamela has carried out two decades of research on the language and literacy skills of young people in the child protection and youth justice systems and has published widely on the language to literacy transition, with an emphasis on high-quality early reading instruction for all children, regardless of postcode or home circumstances.
Pamela’s research has been funded by nationally competitive schemes such as the Australian Research Council and she has published over 200 academic outputs from her work.
In 2017, Pamela was a member of the Year 1 National Literacy and Numeracy Panel convened by the Hon Simon Birmingham, MP and in 2020, she was made a Life Member of Speech Pathology Australia. In 2024, Pamela was named by the Australian Financial Review as one of the five most powerful people in education in Australia.
